Diamond Price - Understanding Diamond Certification

To set a constant price of diamond, the more natural, high quality diamonds are certified by a major gemological laboratory such as GIA, EGL or AGSL, and comes with a certification report or rating so you know exactly what is the way purchasing qualifying. The report is prepared by a group of certified gemologists who are trained to identify all details of the stone are the standings. Understanding the certification is important, so you can know everything about diamonds before making that important purchase.

Laboratory

The first thing to identify in the certification lab that created the report. There are few well-known gemological laboratories that vary by country, such as GIA (Gemological Institute of America), AGSL (American Gem Society Laboratories) and EGL (European Gemological Laboratory). If the report was compiled on another site, you must decide for itself whether or not to trust their work.

Report Number

Each report has a specific number, only enter the diamond. This number is kept on file at the laboratory that created the report so that information can also be accessed. This number is also sometimes laser printed on the diamond itself, and this is verified in the report that "laser inscription registry."

Shape, dimensions, proportions, and the 4 Cs

The report reflects the degree of each of the 4C's of diamonds: color grade is short, clear, and the diamond shape. Diamond measurements are listed in the report, as its length and width, and their proportions, appears as a percentage of the primary measurements.

Finish

The diamond polishing and the degree of symmetry is included in the report. The degree of polish reflects the quality of the workmanship of the facets, and tells the degree of symmetry as well-defined elements of the diamond line with the standards of ideal proportion.

A real diamond pattern usually printed on the report identifying the defects in the stone marked. It has special features, as well as specific measures and proportions of the diamond shall be placed in the drawing. If you are buying from a reputable jeweler, allowing you to use one of their loupes (magnifying lenses used in the diamond industry), and even point out the faults named in the report.

Culet and Girdle

waist of a diamond is the area below the top of the stone, but above the bottom of the stone. The waist size plays an important role in the appearance of the stone, so it appears in the report. If a Culet is present in the diamond, it will be noted in the report. The Culet is a facet that is occasionally cut into the bottom of the stone where the point is or should be.

Comments, codes and values

The report also lists additional laboratory diamond comments that are not included in the regular report. The key helps to define the symbols used throughout the report. Finally, there are several safety features in place that help to prevent the creation of a false report. These security features may include a hologram and a UPC code. These characteristics almost always be present if the certification is submitted to one of the leading laboratories mentioned above.
